What bulbs do I need for Hella Quads?

I've just purchased some Hella Quad headlights for my mk3 from an internet auction.

But the seller suggested that I replace the bulbs. I'm not sure if it's because they're broken, or just a bit old.

Does anyone know what type of bulbs I need? And there are 4 I presume? Are all 4 the same type?

Roughly how much will the bulbs cost me?

Outer lamps are H1's
Inner lamps I think are H3's the same as the front fog lights
Sidelight bulbs are 233's

Get them off ebay and probably won't cost you much more than 10-15 quid, depending on which ones you buy..

Depends really mate,

GTI/VR6 headlamps had 2x H1 bulbs per light, and depending on age, either 501 or 233 sidelight bulbs
CL headlamps had 1x H4 bulb per light, and once again depending on age, either 501 or 233 sidelight bulbs

So technically speaking, if he's putting the headlights onto a CL spec car, then there's a possibility he hasn't got any of the bulbs lol

Yes mate, H1's and H3's. But if you're removing GTI/VR6 dual chamber headlamps from your car, they'll have H1's in them, so that could save you a few pennies.

I'm putting the Hella Quads onto a vr6. So since I am removing factory spec headlights, I will already have the correct bulbs, no?

As you're removing stock VR6 headlamps, you'll be able to remove the H1 bulbs from them, and use them in the outer Hella lamps, which means you could possibly only need a pair of H3's and a pair of 233 sidelight bulbs, but like I say, it depends what the lights come with.. they might come with fully working bulbs, sounds like the seller may have had them stored for a while and doesn't know if the bulbs still work etc
