Half Way Windows

Ive had a quick search of the site and can't seem to find the answer? 

Anyway, ive got my electric windows taking the piss out of me atm.  When held up so they go all the way up (closed) they reach the top then decide to come half way back down :S

To make this worse the drivers one got stuck fully down the other day, and after managing to coax it back up, ive not dared move it down again, just in case my window never goes back up.

Someone mentioned that the "anti-squeeze" mechanism is tripping, causing the windows to come back down, but then they didn't say how to fix it.  I have tried holding the up/down buttons for 20 seconds, but this didn't make a difference.

Any help would be great

Mine never done this, until the door was stripped down and put back together on a new door.

I think there is a mechanism that makes them go down if they hit something, so i suppose its possible something in the regulator is making it go to high, so it thinks it needs to go back down.

But also dec has this problem with his total clossure alarm, and was told that it was the door lock, as its all air fed.

So not really sure, but i know its a comment problem.

Funnily enough I mentioned to someone on here not long ago about the anti squeeze problem and shortly after, mine started with it and it's sticking down! It happened to me today and I tried all sort's to get it to go up and in the end a good slam of the door in a temper seemed to do the trick! I've checked all the wire's in the housing between the door and the body and their all fine so im not sure what to do next! just hoping it's not gonna get any worse or more frequent!

mine to lol it so anouying i pull up at work or home etc turn off ignition get out car lock it walk off and turn around to notice my windows going back down lol so have to go back to car start ignition and put windows back up so anouying

not sure if its the same setup but my Audi windows done this, it was the load sensor in the motor thinking someones head was stuck (there was a reed inside the motor that creates a circuit when the motor moves slightly too much under load). Ended up the sliders on the window itself not being free enough and the motor having to work too hard. Replacement nylon sliders and it was all sorted. cost around 2quid.

Well i got some new seats and door cards at the weekend, so decided to fit them today.  Whilst i had the doorcards off i thought i'd have a butchers at the electric windows.  Managed to fix the passenger side one of the cables was slightly split so a quick bit of tape and that stopped the problem.

However i have decided the drivers window is foooked.  Doesn't want to go any higher than 4 inches once down, and likes to make crunching, plastic snapping, noises.  Not sure if that means new motor or what, but its definitely a job ill be tackling this summer. grr

If u open the door card and look at the housing that clamps to the window, its connected to the motor cable, It u undo the 2bolts that clamp the window and then try your window again (note that obviously the window will not move as you've unclamped it) but the cable will move If this works fine, then you may have your window clamped in the housing in a wrong position. causing it to go back down... it may have slipped at some point... when i repaired my window problem, mine done exactly that and its ok now.

yeah i know what your talking about, i was going to take the whole thing out today, but the weather was looking poor so chickened out lol.  Ill have to give it a go when ive got a bit of time on my hands.  Thanks for the advice

one more thing, dont pull your door card tooooooooo much, I did this and broke the tweeter (speaker) in the door lol had to re-solder the connection on.. lol.. (As long as the cable and motor works fine, then its your window it self not in the correct position in the clamp) let us know how it goes pal.
