8v 4 Branch Exhaust manifold!
« on: 04 June 2009, 20:03 »
Evening all.

Ive just noticed these manifolds on Ebay and just wondered what brand they were as they look very very nice. Unless there custom made ones, not sure.  Seems a good price to me and Im pretty interested.

Hi, i used to make stainless exhausts at work and we used to import some stuff fron china. they always look very nice but are very thin and not normaly very well made. just very well polished. the manifold your talking about LOOKS VERY VERY MUCH like a chinese one to me and i have seen a lot of them for all diffrent cars.

That looks like one I've got fitted. Mine has been on the car 2 years now and so far no problems.

I believe the "olive" design at the bottom is good as it creates flex.

just fitted one to mine, fits realy good but make sure your engine mounts are good as it tends to rub when u pull away fast or when in second and you give it some(1.3 front and gearbox with g60 rear mounts are what they recommend on here)dont know if it gives any more power as i fitted it when i replaced my headgasket and am having running probs at the mo,it also gives it a funny sound aswell
drive it like u stole it,brake it then mod it

I am dubious to any power increase claims when fitted to a standard engine. Also i will concurr they are a bit "tinny" tbh and sometimes think i should have stayed standard. That's hinde sight for you tho.

well by the looks of it mine is a 1.9 tsr engine and yes it does make it sound tinny but thats y i have a sub to drown out the sound
drive it like u stole it,brake it then mod it

some need heat wrap aswell... i take it mine doesnt as its been on the car for a least 3 years and hasnt caused any problems.

unsure of the make but its coupled to a powerflow system so maybe they provided it?

I don't think a semi will give the same results

Ah nice responses you lot thanks!!

Yes i was in doubt as whether to get one or not to be honest.

I happened to speak to John at C n R enterprises yesterday about some febi links i bought from him (threads stripped), Im going to send them back to him for inspection, hopefully get my money back.

Anyway he advised me to stay away from the 4 branch manifold unless i heat wrap it like Chris said, theres another 100 quid like.. He told me stories of the front bulkhead getting that hot, it causes damage to the bodywork and over time you'll get water leaks which doesnt sound too good,  Im not too sure what melts.   He told me to just port a standard cast iron manifold with more or less the same power results, give or take 1 bhp.

Ok well i really wanted a nice 4 branch for my 8 valve but i hear so many bad stories i may just mod a standard jobbie now.  I'm so glad i posted this now. Its good to talk! Thanks alot
