electrical gremlins ?!
« on: 04 June 2009, 16:26 »
Got a set of used rear lights from scrappy to replace the chav lexus lights my golf had on when i bought it. Fitted and tested and it seems theyre not working correctly. If i turn on the hazards, the brake lights flash, If i turn on left or right indicator, the indicator and brake light flashes.
Ive checked all the connections and everything seems fine, the lexus lights worked fine.
Any ideas ?

Ive checked the earth points, both are fine. Could it be anything to do with the lights being from different year golfs ? One from L reg , one from R reg. Both non gti.  They are the same kind of light clusters with the same fittings / plugs on back.
What should I try next ??

wont be the difference in years ,theyre the same. goinjg to have to go over the wiring at tyhe back with a fine  tooth comb, make sure all the plugs are corrosion free and check the actual bulb trays for corrosion/damage too.

edit: actually re-reading the 1st post, do you mean the wrong lights work, or that several lights work together? operhaps the guy who put the lexus lights on messed about with the wiring plugs...

Several lights work together, sometimes the indicator flash on dash doesnt even come on. Ive checked the wiring the best I can , cant see any faults. I can only assume the light clusters I got from scrappys are gubbed. Although my dash light is now temperamental , would replacing fuses be likely to help any ?

yeah thats electrical fault, take the bulb trays out completly and check them over for corrosion. had this on a citroen ax, was a combination of poor earths and damage to one of the bulb trays!

Also check that the correct type of bulbs are fitted in the holders. Single pin bulbs in twin pin holders cause problems
