I know they say the build quality of the golfs seems to go down hill the newer they get, and how true!
I have had a total of 8 MK3 golfs now, and one MK4 ... I drove a 1.8L K reg MK3 golf with 200K miles+ on the clock and it just never let me down, but my MK4 TDI 115 i have had for about 4 months now and its nothing but problems, with 90k on the clock
Its burst a coolent pipe, goes into limp mode when on the motor way, never starts very well (not as good as my MK3 TDI) Tappets rattle like mad when cold (dispite a VW Service!) the electric heated seats failed, and today... the clutch peddle actually broke! the weld snapped clean off and i was left with no clutch, and when trying to fix it.. was really quite shocked at the design faults

Still im not putting them down as much as it may sound, but its such a shock as my MK3 golfs have little issues due to age etc.. but nothing that has renderd my car unusable.
I love the drive quality, style and everything else about the MK4... but is this the price we pay for some fancy blue dials and a sleeker look?
