usually with the lambda disconnected the car will drive just fine, I disconnected it temporarily on a MK3 polo as it was bust, and my mate drove his mk2 abf without one for a week or so till he got a flange welded to his exhaust. Its not ideal to drive it without one but you shouldnt actually notice any drivability issues with it unplugged, if you do something else is wrong.
the lambda plug is located on the driver side somewhere, round the back of the engine. I'll be a 4 pin plug, either square or with round ends.
