mk 3 driver lambda sensor?????

hi, i know a bit about cars but needing help on this one........ :grin:
i got a mk3 1.8 driver not long ago which has cost me a packet so far ....
but iv noticed that the lambda sensor wire coming out of the exhaust is not connected to anything.I cant see any matching plugs or spare wires toplug it in to so was wopndering if maybe the previous owner has just put on a different exhaust .
my car is a N reg 1.8 should it have a lambda sensor?????

the lamda sensor is like a stick, sticking out of the exhaust, it should have a cable coming from it which will connect to the engine loom.
If there was no lambda probe then your engine would be a bit choopy and you would get poor performance?
But you car should and needs a probe!

usually with the lambda disconnected the car will drive just fine, I disconnected it temporarily on a MK3 polo as it was bust, and my mate drove his mk2 abf without one for a week or so till he got a flange welded to his exhaust.  Its not ideal to drive it without one but you shouldnt actually notice any drivability issues with it unplugged, if you do something else is wrong.

the lambda plug is located on the driver side somewhere, round the back of the engine. I'll be a 4 pin plug, either square or with round ends.

i think performance will suffer in certain curcumstances, but it will eventualy cause your CAT to fail as it carnt regulate the mixture going through the exhaust

maybe a bit yeah, just saying general drivability wont suffer.
I'd expect cat will only be damaged if there is another running problem, as ecu wont know about it to compensate.  either way its not recommended to run without one, but this explains why the OP hasnt notieced till now :)

just to clarify me exhaust has got the lambda in and there is a plug on the end of wires but i cant find anywhere on the loom to plug it in????

it'll be there somewhere! like i said, it'll be on the driver side somewhere, its a 4 pin plug.  follow where the wiring comes up from behind the servo :)

followed all wiring , even stripped big covers off top of ecu and wiper motor to see if it was tucked away cant find it anywhere , STRANGE..
cant even find anywhere that looks as if looms been messed with??????????? :cry:
