* Abs light on * Can anyone help ??
« on: 03 June 2009, 18:43 »
hi all, my abs light came on a few days ago after i'd fitted a set of faulty shocks wich leaked hydrolic oil all over the rear hubs.  i have now fitted new shocks and while the car was in the air removed the rear abs sensors from the hubs and they were bone dry and probably not the cause for the light to come on.  we've plugged the car in which gave a fault code of abs wheel sensor 00283 but this code relates to an injector fault when checked on Autodata 3.18.  has anyone had a similar problem/knows what the fault code actually is ??  any help appreciated before i start to replace sensors, pumps etc. Cheers. J

00283 ABS Wheel Speed Signal #1 (Left Front) - Range/Performance - G47

pop wheel off and clean up the sensor and sensor ring, make sure the wires look ok :)

*** Absolutely brilliant thanks, plugged the car into a different diagnostic system which said "abs whel sensor left side" took the wheel off and found that the mechanic who recently fitted my suspension had not clipped the sensor cable out of the way and it had quite expectedly wrapped around the drive shaft and ripped the wires out of the sensor, chuffed !!  a bit of solder, some tape and a code rest and the lovely bright orange light has been extinguished.

then i logged on and found the above post.

why did autodata not say that 00283 was the front left sensor ?? where did you find excactly what the code related to ??

Cheers everso much.

Never heard of AutoData, and thats probably why! lol.

VAG.com ftw because it has VAG in the name.

Just becuase it has the correct OBD2 plug, dont mean that it is best for the VAG codes ;)

autodata probably using generic OBD fault code list, and vag-com has a different set of codes :)

I have a list of vag-com codes on me compy, alternatively have a look at the ross-tech wiki
