vag alarm
« on: 02 June 2009, 16:55 »
noticed under the bonnet on the inner wing l/h side an alarm box. no name on it but on the back it as 998 vag 138. does anyone know if this was standard vag equipment ie factory installed. i have no remotes for an alarm only an immoboliser fob although there is motion sensors each side of the window pillars.
 its a very late 92 8valve

There was no 'factory' system back then, possible dealer fit item I guess. Seeing as it is ancient and you have no remotes for it, sounds like it is time for it to be ditched or replaced! :)

Ive got the same system in mine, you cannot get remotes etc from the dealers anymore and even if you could trying to get someone to code them would be a nightmare

Im going to remove mine at some point and get a new alarm fitted as i only have one remote left and its a bit tempremental

Mine is also a late 92 8v

guys guys you give me hope
it must have been a vag extra at the time ive since found out that it is probably a scorpion alarm as used by vag and ive contacted the scorpion dealers (via email) to see if you can still get remotes for it so il keep you posted.
do either of your alarm boxes have any names numbers on them
also is the immoboliser at the side of the ignition barrel seperate from the alarm and is that vag fitted

To be honest, with the costs of new remotes and trying to get them to work you might be better to remove it and fit a new more modern system.

There is a Ci on the remote, the main box for it is behind my centre console so will have to have a look on that at some point and get some numbers off it

just a quick update as promised....spoke to guy today at scorpion alarms he told me remotes are now obsolete  and to remove alarm as  in his words `will certainly cause problems`. ho well back to the drawing board for me but if youve got one of these alarms look after your remote

Why would it cause problems, a decent auto electrical specialist will be able to remove it with no issues.
