whats the difference?

hey, got myself a holf of a 2.0 16v abf engine to replace my 8v lump, speaking to a guy on ebay about getting his wiring, ecu, ignition loom, keys, immobiliser,

i was just wondering what was the differences between the 16v engine and the 8v engine?

engine mounts,
engine bay wiring loom,
would my gearbox and clutch of the 8v fit the 16v engine?

if anyone could shed some light on this for me would be great, cheers

16v is hydraulic clutch, I am not sure if the 8v box will fit or be strong enough so it would be better to switch to the 16v setup if you could.

You'll need a lot more than that, all the pipes for thh hydraulic clutch setup, the cables and shifter tower and the gearbox too. The brakes will need upgrading. You'd be a hell of a lot better off just going for an original 16v with all the work and cost involved

it will work on the original gearbox, just get a new clutch to suit. however if you plan for big power in the future the box may not last. The most power put thru these boxes from the factory that I know of was the US only 9a 2.0 16v MK2, which is 136bhp, compared to the ABFs 150bhp (and usually by now they've loosened up and put out a bit more!)

If you dont mind doing a hydro box swap later on down the line then you can do it relatively easy, what you need is:
engine
ecu
loom
exhaust
inlet + related gubbins

and thats it. mounts etc all swap over from the old engine.  Just be aware around 95 the ecus had an immobilisor built in, so get the matching key, transponder box & decoder ring to match the ecu.

yeah the new ecu im getting im also getting the key and immobiliser (incase) also all wiring from bay and fusebox including getting it

just want to make sure i have everything i need in order to do the swap,

so to clear this up i have to get a new clutch or will my old one not fit? and if i have to get the new clutch and change it to hydro what else do i need to fix that in?

the old one will fit but its madness not to put on a new one while its all apart

Would suggest changing as many parts as possible for the prices they cost, belts etc, whilst its all out before you stick it back in.

And give the bay a propper nice clean up. Maybe a few chrome bits.....
