Hey, ive recently bought a Mk3 gti to turn into a track day car! I have totally stripped the car out today to get rid of unwanted weight, so if any1 needs sits etc get intouch.
Im just wondering wether you guys know the best place to purchase a 4-2-1 manifold or maybe a 4-1 then into a sports cat? Would appreciate any help or suggestions for other things that concern power gains:D!!! Thanks all.

few bits here you could use http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Hottuning-eu__W0QQ_armrsZ1 if you want to get real serious you could start thinking about uprated cams.

WEll said but it depends if it will need an MOT to drive to the track, or if it will be trailered.

also full decat will make it louder so would want to keep it under the db restrictions

I wouldn't worry about power for the time being, spend your money on a good suspension set up, good brakes and some poly bushes. Get it handling and stopping first and then look to more power. It's no good having a million bhp but understeering off at every corner and having to stand on the brakes miles before anyone else.

Engine wise to start with I would say a good fluid service and freshen up all the ignition side of things, drill the air box and slap in a good panel filter. You'll be surprised how much difference that alone will make.

Head over to the track day/motorsport section of the forum as that should help you out loads.

Good luck and hopefully see you at a track day sometime.

Nick

tring to tune the 8v won't do a lot really and it's expensive.   get the weight out of it eject everythign that can be ejected that will make a massive differance to the way the goes handels and feels.

it'll need brakes disks want a couple of grooves at most  don't get drilled disks,  as for pads  EBC yellows work well don't bother with greens or reds.

get some sticky ish tyers.   once your skills and car develop start thinking about power but untill then a 2.0 8 v in std form will be fine infact it'll proabaly do you a lot of good as it'll encorage you to hang onto your speed through corners and learn how to make the car do it.  then when you want more power ignore tuneing the 8v and drop a 16v in, it is prtty much universaly accsepted that it's vw's best enigne for track cars
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
