Realistic asking price?
« on: 29 May 2009, 08:12 »
I don't think this counts as a "what's it worth" open ended question - I know what other people are advertising at and was wanting a feel for wether that was realistic.

I've been looking on Autotrader and searching for Mk3 Cabriolets with full leather interiors, under 80k miles, they seem to go from anything aroudn £2000-£3000, which is more than I thought it'd be worth!!

If that's the case, I might actually consider selling mine, is it worth advertising it for £2750ono? It's in reasonable condition and the modifications that have been done have all been very subtle (and at no expense spared!).

Spec:
VW Golf Mk3 Cabriolet: May 1998 R-reg, 2.0 8V "Avantgarde", 67k miles: Full electrics (4x windows & roof), Full heated black leather interior, Golf "anniversary" alloys (BBS 16" RS/RX2).

Mods: Schrick high-lift cam, Miltek Jet Cat-Back full stainless exhaust, PiperX induction kit, ECU remap (@Amd), Koni/Eibach suspension done at 43k miles (-35mm), Neuspeed F/U Brace - all done @ AmDtechnik!
Also more mods: FK Power Boost Valve / Fuel pressure regulator, Brembo: cross-drilled discs and pads done at 66k miles, Toyo Proxes T1-R 205/45ZR16: fronts replaced at 66k miles, backs are about half-worn.

FSH and lots of reciepts - full audit of last 5 years, incl reciepts for purchase and fitting of all the mods, plus brakes & tyres (Dec-08), Clutch (Jul-08). Cambelt done at approx 42k - but 6 years ago!

MOT and taxed to Feb-2010.

Alpine headunit 4x60W V-power internal amp, Alpine R-series component speakers up front.

Let me know if "£2750ono" actually a realistic asking price - if so, I'll be scrubbing it up and putting it on the market this weekend methinks!

The trouble at the moment is it is a buyers market, price it too high and you might not sell it.

I would list it for sale on here and on http://www.edition38.com/forums/

Not sure what it is worth but to me £2750 seems a lot for 11 year old Golf, the cam belt is overdue by the way.

Try it and see how you get on.

at that price i dont think an entuhsiast would go for it however i think it would appeal to the average person who was after a mk3 cab (but then they may be put off by the fact its been moderatly modified). hard to say really :undecided:

Thanks guys.

I know - highish price, but it's summer and I'm in NO rush at all... and I figured if someody wanted a Mk3 Cab with all the basic mods done at top spec (Koni / Eibach suspension, Brembo brakes, etc), then somebody would probably pay at least avg asking for it (£2500).

What is the service interval on the 8V cambelt? I thought it was every 5yrs / 40k miles?

ouch, okay, thanks for the heads up guys - I'll go and check the log - pretty sure it was done around 42k when the car was about 6yrs old, so I was just going to double that!!
