Whats the point in the MK6 GTI when there's Scirocco R

Disagree, people aren't trying to have a dig. I think a lot of people, especially MK5 owners, are a tad disappointed at the lack of improvement made in the MK6 when compared to the MK5. I mean just look at the difference between MK4 and MK5 !

Too many people are getting hung up on this, why is it such a big deal ? The mk5 is a top car, so what if the mk6 is not the huge jump people wanted, I'm sure there is a mk5.5 support group out there that will help you overcome it

Thats a fair point but im use to 200bhp now so my next step is logically a car with a bit more and the new MK6 GTI doesn't add much. 10Bhp isn't a leap  especially when they are asking for more money.
And seeing as every chav and BMW driver wants a race all the time, it would be nice to every now and then to show them how its done.

Personally, im not happy with VW's move and thats why i will be looking for an S3 as my next purchase. Would have loved a MK6 GTi but for the money and lack of power, there are other alternatives!
The Scirocco R does look more aggressive than the MK6 GTi. Front fogs on the MK6 are just 
Not a big fan of the tail lights either.

Fair point. I suppose it's what you're used to. I'm coming from a 150 bhp diesel to a Mark 6 so the GTi seems like a revelation. It'll be interesting, though, to see what I think in 3 years time when I come to thinking about changing it. Will I just buy another or will I want more?
Only time will tell but I suspect I might want more which explains why a lot of Mark 5 owners don't seem to be in too much of a ruh to chnge to the 6.

Had my test drive today. Spec'ed what i wanted and the bottom line price came out at £26,700 

NO CHANCE VW!

I think people have forgotten just how expensive the mk5 was new!! My mums spec new was pushing £27k!

The mk6 is practically identical cost with more extras standard
