I've got headlamp washers on my 06' plate GTi and having had Auto-Xenon's on my RS Clio, willing to spend a bit to purchase them for the Dub. Once you've had them, it's tricky to go back. I know more or less what's involved.

Am I correct in thinking I will need:

And:

Will I also need a separate auto level adjuster unit?
Also, I hope I'm right in thinking the Xenon's come with the ballasts, is this so?

If I didn't have the HL washers, I wouldn't even be thinking about it hence why I bought one with them.
Hopefully, it's still feasible ;)

I've seen this thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3552517&page=2
Fairly inspirational tbh. Doesn't look *too* much of a malarkey. Probably out of my skill-set scope though, so may be looking for dealer/vw specialist to do it.
Any ideas on cost just for the labour? Wouldn't think it's more than 4 hours work.

Cheers,
Pete.

you also need an auto leveling system, normally factory fitted and it sits on the rear axle.

I remember someone tallied up the cost and it would be well over £2000 to retrofit xenons.

Been done for under Euro1000 by a guy in Greece. No doubt a lot pricier sourcing the parts in UK £.

Mine has factory xenons and I know that the front wishbones are different due to the self levelling system, so something for that must bolt to them somewhere.

The self leveling system and washers are only a requirement if the car is manufactured with Xenons I thought. Not a requirement for retrofit, though you would have to have them adjusted properly when fitted...

I may be wrong though...

More than likely require some recoding to stop the car throwing a wobbly if you don't fit the sensors.

Hmm.

I've got the hardest bit, the washers, which in reality is probably an impossible retrofit, so that's the hard work done.

Forgetting the cost of the headlamps themselves (that come WITH the ballasts);

- Auto leveling system
- Wiring adapters (so the new HL fit into the Halogen plugs)

These two can't be much more than £200 or so - Surely that's all I need?

Yeah cheers Cass; that's the guide I found (in OP ^ ) after some research on various VW forums. A lot of people fit them like that without the washers, thus obviously illegal whereas mine won't be obviously so I can't really see why it's so tricky, provided I'm clear in what I need?

Ta,
Pete.

Im sorry but you are wrong, whether fitted when manufactured or retrofit, xenons have to have washers and auto leveling by law.

The self leveling system and washers are only a requirement if the car is manufactured with Xenons I thought. Not a requirement for retrofit, though you would have to have them adjusted properly when fitted...

Indeed, I will have both present so I can pass MOTS.

Washers = got. Just need the Auto-levellers.
