No black 16vs ever for sale?
« on: 27 May 2009, 17:39 »
I am looking to buy one in the next 2 months been looking on pistonheads, ebay and here and not really seen any for sale for over a month

Is there a better way to find / buy one? The only mk2s I can see are 8v ones, or 16v with crazy high miles in red or whatever.

Not mint, but it's a black 16v! In Stockport, so a bit out of your way. Done 174000, but says it's been reconditioned.

yea i just dunno if i should trust that kind of miles, i would idealy like to get one which is under 140k miles.

i guess its just luck of the draw, i may have to get a 8v if push comes to shove, there seems to lots of them about with good miles and in black

Given the age of car you're looking at mileage won't matter one iota.  If you're serious about it as a driver's car most of the bushes will need replacing after 20 years, regardless of mileage.  Also it's very difficult to substantiate mileage after 20 years, unless it's all crystal, in which case you'll be looking at mega-money for one of these 'fast appreciating classics'.

'Buy on body' has to be the mantra.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

yea i guess, i just dont want to be in the garage more than on the road, the odd things to replace are fine but not when all ur wages are gone, thats more of a project car then than an actual one hehe

If you don't want to spend money on replacing things, don't buy a 20 year old car.

Until you've either inspected the whole vehicle and found everything to have been replaced recently (and found the price to be appropriately buttock-clenchingly high), or been through the complete set of mounts, bushes, seals and brake lines yourself you cannot be confident that all/any/none of it won't need replacing in the not-too-distant future.

The good news is that as it's a relatively simple car there are not that many things to replace, most of it is cheap and freely available and there's a lot of later stuff, of better design that can be fitted to improve handling and durability.

yea i agree, i ment like i wouldnt want a new engine etc hehe, bushes and stuff are part of the experiance in owning the car . On the other hand I am looking to spend about £4k or just under so I am hoping I can get one in good shape!
