Brake Upgrade
« on: 25 May 2009, 00:41 »
Ok, am building a Mk2 road/race car, and stuck on what brakes to fit, i am on a budget for now as i want the car usable, i will then spend my money slowly upgrading to monster stoppers!!!

I keep seeing bit when i search about fitting the G60 set up, 280mm, can i buy these bits new still?

I think i need a hub with a bolt on caliper carrier (of any this sort of age VAG), The 280mm calipers (are they only fitted to G60's?), and obviously disc and pads from G60!?

Is there any other options, have seen a few people mention octavia RS brakes on a mk2, and Seat cupra!? do these require the same sort of work and parts?

Sorry to ask, i have searched and am getting more and more confused!

Cheers
Mark

Whats your budget? you can get a 285mm front brake conversion kit with 4 pot callipers from Hi-spec for about 400 quid, they also do
different size kits from 230mm upto 310mm and seperate rear calipers for about £140,search for hi-spec brakes on google and it will take u to there website

I asked about this before. Here's the link to my thread;

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=106287.msg913915#msg913915

I'm going to be doing it this August, along with a suspension upgrade ready for a new engine. Still not sure what engine I want, 2.8 litre V6, 1.8 20v Turbo... decisions, decisions...

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

ok, I have searched high and low and i still dont have all the info i need, sorry!

I have found a set of 1.9tdi hubs, they have removable caliper carriers, and are 4-stud, and will bolt straight onto my car! This solves the carrier problem i think!

I have also found some carriers and calipers off of an A6 2.8 V6, they use big discs, think there 288mm, and look as if they will fit on the tdi hubs!

Does anyone know otherwise, and does anyone know if you can get 288mm 4-stud discs?

Can anyone see any problems with doing this?

Thanks
Mark
