can you fit factory options on an old MK5?
« on: 19 May 2009, 22:58 »
Hi all, I am still looking at MK5 GTI's, and have found a nice one at a dealers with heated seats, air con, arm rest, but no other options, im quite keen on things like the ipod connection, are you able to add this to a car after you have it second hand, or is it best to just stick a new stereo in completely?
Oh, and there was some damage to the drivers plastic arm console, and steering wheel, are these easy to repair/replace?

My ipod connector wassupplied and retro fitted by the garage when i brought the car, lives in the glove box!

Plastic arm console should be easy enough to replace, the delay should be able to do this ,  not sure about steering wheel , yes they can change it but you depends if you want to spend out on one , i would talk to the dealer.

If you buy the car say to the saleman you want those parts repaired before you pick it up. If they say no, go somewhere else.

the garage said they want £9995 for it, 5 door 52000 miles, silver, scuffs to teh alloys, and damage to teh inside as listed, I said would you budge on price, basically £9500 would do it for me, he said he will not budge at all on the asking price, saying he could have charged £10500 and accepted £9995,even though on the autotrader advert it said cruise control and rain sensors, which ididnt have! But I did like it, think its more to do with the fact of first drive in a MK5 though.

I'd counter that dealer comment with, if he could have charged 10.5K, why didn't it sell? It's a buyer's market...trust me, I know :(

I would look at some other examples, there are tons on pistonheads right now for 10k or less and lots look to be in very good condition with non of the scrapes on wheels or interior issues. Its a buyers market and i think even at 9.6 its not a great deal, loads of examples with less miles for the same price,

There are some nice ones out there, But I have to travel about 120 miles to see them, which doesnt sound too bad, but have already covered 400 miles this week with the wife in her car (I owe her!!!)
Managed to get them down to £9.6 with 6 months road tax, which im happy with, its also got 12 months warranty, which is the main thing that worries me from private sellers, and also that its dodgy if private,
