mk1 help please

hi all i have had 3 mk3 gtis and now on a mk4 but have always wanted a old school mk1 i have been offerd a 1988 mk1 cabrio with 80k on the clock its a inport from the states and is very clean and rust free what should i be checkin on this car when i go to check it out?also as its a inport and left hand drive are all the parts the same as a uk spec?thanks for any help

Depending which state it came from depends how much less power it'll be making.
Being a left hooker, means the brakes should be loads better than the UK models.

Rear arches rust out, near the top, where the strut mounts, inner rear archs, bottom of the front wings, floor pan behind front seats, bottoms of the doors, if the drain holes get blocked, windscreen frame rots.  All the usual places for a 21year old car.  Biggest problem is the fuel filler neck, rots, falls into tank, gets sucked into the fuel delivery system and does something similar to 'sucking' it in the process.

If it's clean, do it, why not have something different for summer?

usa mate and its used as a show car so very clean and tidy :smiley:
