Hmmm interesting, might well do that. Although its so consistent its not a worry - but its definitely "below par" until its up above 70+ degrees, probably for the best :D

My 2008 R32 gets nearly 300 miles to a full tank and nearly 25mpg.

Have a think about that.............................
2008 R32 DBP gone. 2008 GT TDI going 2009 GTI coming soon!

Normal run on my way to work this morning, keeping at the same speed as the traffic in my direction, I managed a WHOPPING 39mpg at the end of my 45 min journey (21 miles total) on the A414 (3 roundabouts) for 2-3 miles, the M11 motoway for 10 miles or so, and the A406/A13 for the remaining 10 or so miles. Impressive huh!
Thats driving at around 75-80mph on the motorway, and around 50-60 on the A roads.

I can never get the same when driving back home though, since the roads are nice and open ;)

350 to 400 miles to tank.

this week i did a little test with my journeys to work - bored yes, but what else am i going to do? lol

Journey to work is 15 miles - 3 miles on b roads till the motorway then 10 miles on the motorway and then 2 miles on a roads in traffic.

usually i tend to sit about 80-85mph on the motorway and maybe drive the a/b roads a tad over the limit if its safe - the result of this the range of my tank drops about 25 or 30 miles (28mpg) for the 15 mile jouney.

This week i decided to just sit on the motorway going 70 in the left lane and then keep to the speed limits on the a/b roads.

3 conclusions:

1. i get to work a lot more chilled than i used to :)
2. it does add about 5 mins to my half hour journey
3. the chilled approach only uses 5 or 10 miles (37mpg) off my range as opposed to 25 to 30 - the tank is going to last me 2 weeks instead of 10 days.

i'm still going to let my hair down at the weekends because why would i have a GTI if i wasn't going to use it properly but i thought it was interesting the difference it makes to the daily commute - i mean at the end of the day - WHY THE HELL AM I IN A RUSH TO GET TO WORK ANYWAY? LOL

I now have the exact same approach to travelling to work - I sit at 70-75 on the M4 for 10 miles (at the moment through 2 miles of 50mph speed restriction)... no point hairing through there. The rest of my 30 mile commute is dual and single A road carriageway. I can do 36-37mpg quite comfortably even with a nice little blast on the final back roads to my office.

However occaisionally, like today, I meet up with something like a Focus ST, and I just cant help but giving it some beans and leaving them for dust with only the slightest of provocation :)

My mpg suffers then :D

I just got an astonishing 50 MPG on an 18 mile trip, I was stuck in steady traffic for the journey The car felt extra brilliant today for some reason, probably because I had a quick look at a 5 Door GTI Mk6 this morning at the dealers.

BTW this is with a stage 1 remap, and yes following my earlier crisis of faith

My Oscarli remap is back on, and I think now that the weather has warmed up it is fantastic to drive. I am convinced that colder temperatures made the turbo a little too fierce for my liking. But that is for another thread....

Loyal owner since 2005, done with remapping, I drive a Golf not a Veyron. (hypocrite)
