You mean the solenoid on top of the start motor  
Check the connections , also check the earth on the gearbox.

yeh did have  good try at jumping it,  but she was having none of it.  bit weird and cos of work im not gonna get a chance to have a look at it in the light until the weekend.  thanks for ur help guys, ill let u know how i get on
