cheers mate great help.
would prefer the looks of the corrado and definately the performance and handling but the lack of knowledge and rarity was putting me off slightly.
not saying that i dont want a rare vw but was worried about parts etc
got a mk3 golf driver at mo so its gonna be a big jump up!!!! wallet wise and performance!

nowt wrong with the mk3, lets not start this again

Both are good motors but the corrado Mikester says are 2.9 190bhp vrs 2.8 174 Golf Vr6....

Shell out for a G60

Am i wrong in saying that the G60s are all left hand drive tho? heard they are more expensive to maintain aswell??? love the vr sound aswell altho i hear the g60s supercharger sings a nice song!

Ealry G60`s  were LHD but were right hand drive from 91-92 when it was replaced by the VR didn`t find it expensive to maintain the charger is the only weak point and a rebuild  is around £350 G-Werks rebuilt mine for peace of mind the unit is easy to remove just like a large alternator at the front of the engine, replacement is expensive if it goes bang though if you buy a G60 buy a standard example with either a reciept for a charger re-build or budget for a rebuild in the purchase price..the whine of the charger is hard to beat.I had a drilled out air-box with a K+N panel filter in sounded meaner than my VR6.

The Golf3 only has a simple torsion bar at the back, whereas the Corrado has the cuter system out of the Passat, which does nice things like passive rear wheel steer etc.  This is partly why the handling of the Corrado is better, also the rear end weighs more than the Golf, so weight distribution is better - better handling again.

The flip side is that there are more bushes to die, so potentially it'll cost more to keep on the road and some of the parts for the Corrado are pricey and increasingly difficult to get hold of.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Bhp wise corrado is 190 and the obd1 golf is 174. The later odb2 golfs are known to put out 190. On a level playing field
the corrado would be my choice( but is the fanancial hyke worth it). a good low mileage 96 highline will be a lot less expensive
than a 94 corrado with a lot more mileage.

would still choose the corradq

  • Bora TDi 130 Highline - usually filthy.
Go for the Corrado unless you need the extra space of the Golf. If you don't, it's a no brainer!

Keeping schtum. Mostly.
