It's the long, thin metal strip that sits above the front bumper and below the front grill, what is it called?

THink it's just called the bottom section of the grill.

metal in the mk2, plastic in mk3. Its a one piece with the grill i think.

I think you'll find its plastic! It may well have some metal backing.

My mk3 Gti was metal which clipped to the plastic backing which was part of the grill, the debadged grills are all plastic however.

mine is metal.. and is a seprate part to the grill
