Exhaust manifold for a 1.8 K-Jet

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a T25 camper with a 1.8 K-Jet engine (i think), and have found a crack in the exhaust manifold.



Basically this will fail the MOT wont it?

If so whats my best option? reweld or replace?

If replace anyone know where i can get one?

yup thats a crack,   problem is been a conversion you'v bought off someone you can never be 100% sure what bits were used.

you chould weld it  but cast dosent weld very well stick welder and high nicel rods is best bet but its a pita and will probaly crack again.  i bet is a 1.6 NA diesel exhaust manifold

unless it's blowing lots it'll probaly pass the mot

damn nightmare, its all pretty tight down there so could do with identical part. would there be an part code on it?

Would taping it help? it does blow enough that if i put hand near it i can feel it.MOT fail?

if it passed mot, what would worst case scenario be just leaving it as is?

Taping won't work very well due to the heat, leaving it as is could cause issues with how it runs.

stitching ( drill tap bolt drill tap bolt ) don't work on manifolds

welding them is a pig,   on tractors when ther;s room i clean the manilfold off in situe and fire the bugger up and give it some load ont he pto so the manifold gets HOT stop the motor  then welde lots of current with a high nickel rod then start it back up again to stop things cooling to quickly. 

to try and weld that you'll have to find a scap head or somethign to hold the manifild true while you weld it and heat it up with gas first

That looks to be a 1.6D NA manifold on there.

You need to lose that, as it will be stranglifying the engine.

Get a Golf GTI manifold and fabricate a pair of downpipes, into one, into a single box.  When I did one i just put the pipe into a GTI backbox - worked well and sounded fine.

I have the manifold from a 8v engine going spare if you want it. Does have a hacked off downpipe attached to it that'll be a pig to get off though.

problem is i guess the converter put that smaller manifold in there for a reason as he seemed to know his stuff with a full engine replacement. I am guessing the normal gti manifold wont fit as its tight in the camper engine bay.

If i take this cracked one out will there be a part number on it? That might help.

Otherwise does anyone know if a gti manifold is much bigger?

gti manifold will fit in the hole. need to custmise the exhaust tho not exactly complicated.
