Keyless unlocking?
« on: 13 May 2009, 19:45 »
I was having a discussion with a dude in work, who told me than mk3 Golfs are fitted with a lever located next to one of the mud flaps, that when depressed, will cause the car to unlock itself, with a bit of deft manipulation of the lock barrel (such as a long thin pointy object inserted into it and twiddled). He says it's connected to the vacuum tube that all cars with central locking have, connected from the body to the door. He then told me that he found out about it, as someone in Nuts had put it in the top tips section.

Now, I'm a complete car noob really, last time I changed my air filter, I had to check a Haynes manual to find out where it was lol, but logic to me dictates that such a lever wouldn't work, as the dampers in the barrel of the lock have to be depressed properly, ie with the correct key, else the lock won't budge.

Now am I right in thinking the dude was talking bull, or does such a device exist on Golfs, and if so, why would VW include such a design flaw?

Haha I thought so, but the guy seemed quite convincing.

I've had the car on axle's and been under it before, and never seen anything, but still...

Ah well, live and learn lol

Think about it another way if what he was saying was true think how easy it would be to steal the car.
