Knackered gearbox ??
« on: 13 May 2009, 08:37 »
This morning coming to work, coming off roundabout pulled out to overtake a lorry. Was in 2nd at time but as I went to change up I could not engage 3rd - or any other gear!

Eventually eased off, clutch was initially just flopping around.  After cruising a bit further the clutch did engage - but then could only find 6th !!   Fortunately the road was pretty clear and I only had a couple more roundabouts to negotiate in the remaining 20 miles.   Have delivered it to local franchise and asked them to have a look.

ED 30 - almost 2 years old with 37k on the clock.       Will wait to hear the diagnosis - and whether they can find a courtesy car for tonight.

Ouch...bad luck vanders.

Let us know what happens and the diagnosis. Fingers crossed it is the clutch and not the box.

Well it is the clutch apparently.   As they have got to order part in (fair enough) & they 'do not have a suitably trained technician'  I have the pleasure of a Polo 1.4tdi blue motion until next Tuesday.

Presume that they will have to bring in someone from  another (Vindis) branch to do the job.

After getting over my horror at the courtesy car I have actually been surprised with the Polo - not as bad as I feared.

Glad it's not to serious for you, and the Polo is a pretty sweet car to drive, always enjoyed the ones I've had.

Clutch is better going than the engine, so at least it is fairly good news

How can any 'technician' not be able to change a clutch, can hardly be a technician if you cannot complete a basic job like a clutch change. Especially when the dealers like to charge £100+ per hour for their services   :embarassed:
