I need some help and Advice

Hi there. These things are not urgent too be done however after a week or so's ownership they are already starting too niggle me. Can anyone shed some light on any of these or have had similare things go wrong :
MFA reading 8mpg (i really hope its not actually only doing 8mpg) or ill be spending a hell of a lot on petrol
Rev counter bouncing around right after i change gear or rev the engine (ie if revved to 4k in 2nd and change to 3rd the counter will bounce too 1k thenm back up to 5k then down again and then settle on what it should
lights s flicker off when they are on (this seems too be a loose connection in the switch because i just have to press it in harder again and it sorts it - like the switch isnt properly noticing its fully on and if i hit a bump the switch then gets looser and i have too press it in again grrr)
and no fog lights working AT ALL
I think thats it.

O and my temperature light flashes lol. But only from cold. Then when the car warms up it doesnt do it no more. There is defiantely nothing wrong here its had new fans radiators etc but it still does it. Ive seen a few people say they have bought new clocks and its sorted most of these problems. Is this actually the case??
Im thinking of booking it into VW dealership because at least this way too they do their 27point check and will notify me of anything else. And tyhery have never tried too rip me off. What sort of cost would they bring too me?? Im most worried about rev counter and mfa

I wouldn't go to vw try a local vw specialist. Try the search function on some of your problems should shed some light on whats going on

the mfa has 2 settings on the stalk, in one postion its the adverage, since it was last reset. and the other postion its pretty much real time. mine sometimes says 4mpg in one postion of the stalk and the other says like 31mpg.

my water temp light flashes when the water lever drops abit, try topping it up with abit more water.

sorry frybert whats that about the stalk?? I thought you just pressed it in too change the reading (ie from clock to temp to mpg etc)

He means the toggle switch on top of the stalk to swap between "current trip" and "long term trip".

rev counter sounds like it might be a hall sensor fault, but then it would also make the car run funny, so it seems the clocks might be at fault!
you need a new light switch too, but check how many pins the old one has on before you swap it, as there are at least 3 different ones available!  Also you want to pull the switch forward to check the wiring to it hasnt melted.
