Cant open my drivers or from inside!

Help!! I cant open the drivers side door on my 97 GTi from the inside. I stripped the door down and the link bar from the interior handle to the lock mechanism appears to be connected and operating the lever inside the lock assembly but it does not release the latch. Any ideas??

Mine did this a few times. you'll have a sticking lock mechanism that isn't releasing. I took the door pin off and pushed the rod in then back out as far as it would go a few times with some pliers with the odd pull of the handle. Did the trick for me after my passengers had to clamber across the car for a few days!
