Concerning it keeps happening though. Going to keep an eye on pressures and if it starts to drop do another full flush of the system. Don't really want to be having to pull the sump after every trackday!

That looks like gasket sealant.

The black bits are certainly sealant the red bits are a perfect colour match to the block.

Where do you think the sealant has come from then.

I don't know. I never use the stuff and the only gaskets I've replaced since I've had it are the filter housing gasket and then the sump gasket today. There's loads of sealant on the water flange on the side of the head but that's orange and could never get in the oil.

It's all a bit of a mystery. The paint is coming from where C&R painted the block (Over spray/paint on the insides of the block) and it's flaking off. Not what I would expect from a well reputed engine builder.

Thats mad, why would anyone paint the inside of a block, we only ever painted the outside the block @ TSR.

been catching up on this thread..... damn it was good that you found that! cant belive thats paint in there, crazy!  was tempted to paint my block, not sure i want to now.... this makes me want to be very careful now when i get to the point of replacing seals, shows that only a little amount in the wrong place can cause trouble!

If painted loads with hammerite in the past mate and it's worry free. Just mask up all the mating surfaces with good quality masking tape and trim with a blade. Then brush it on (I've never tried spraying). Done about 5 mini engines that way and never had a problem.

If this keeps happening I think I'm gonna have to pull the engine out over the winter, strip it down, get it acid dipped and then put it back together.
