Nice one, not sure the wife will be as happy as when you came round and collected stuff though!  It will give me a gerat excuse to drop the sump and fit the oil pump I have lying arround though.  You planning to do any o ther track days soon?  I need to scratch that itch again and it is always better with company.

Until I find a new job I won't be doing anymore. Horney - Job + tracday spending = Mrs Horney rage x 1000000000. :grin:

Hopefully once I've got a new job and sorted my finances then I can get along to a few later in the year.

I've got a job but still no money to spend on track time!  SWMBO feels that all our cash would be better spent buying her a house!  Still the latest one we've found has no workshop so I get to design one and it is close to Lydden Hill (and not far from Brands) so all is not lost........

Anyhoo been to halfords for some bits for the oil pump swap. Needed some oil so picked up some of this:



Will be interesting to see what it's like. Have run the car on Halfords 10w40 Semi synth since I've had it with no complaints.

How much was that?!

£10 says it won't help your oil pressure concerns and may well bring on the buzzer of doom (tm).

Take it back and go back to thicker, cheaper stuff, changed at very regular intervals would be my suggestion.

Was only a couple of quid more than the 10w40 stuff I usually use. From my understanding 60 is thinker than 40 when hot therefore not thinning out?

So 18 months to a year ago the Golf in the hands of Alex the last owner had a loss of oil pressure and needed the bottom end rebuilding. The culprit:



I've been suffering less than perfect pressure myself so today I pulled the pump out.



Look familiar? Seems to be paint and sealant on both occasions!

Oil pressure is now a healthy 20psi (1.37 bar)at idle @ 80deg Oil temp, hurrah!

Not the hardest job in the world but not helped by a paper gasket having been used last time the sump was refitted. It was a right pig to clean it all up.



I'll be cleaning up the old pump and adding it to my increasingly large box of spare parts. I spoke to Alex earlier and he confirmed it had had a new pump when the lump was rebuilt last time.
