Right now I'm blissfully unaware of what I'm missing out on and hugely enjoy doing UK trackdays, hell I'm snobish enough about those to not want to do an airfeild day.
Driving your car is all good anywhere. The Ring, Spa, UK tracks and even airfield days are good fun. The chance to explore the cars and your limits without hitting the armco.

Too much stuff putting me off going to the ring at the moment yet it has always been an ambition of mine to go.

Cooling is all bog standard 8v kit other than some silicon hoses. Oil temp peaks at 120 on trackdays which is a little high so I want to add a thermostat controlled oil cooler at some point.

Expecting a couple more parcels today and if they arrive the list of jobs for this weekend looks like the following:

1) Replace all three dash bulbs
2) Fit ameter guage and wire up back light for Ameter and Oil Pressure Guage
3) Fit replacement bonnet
4) Fit bonnet pins
5) Replace NS outer CV joint
6) Fit harnesses
7) Cut out foam door cards and fit to doors
8 ) Fiddle with timing
9) Get it laser alligned for toe and camber

Not much then! Never done a CV joint on a VW before, haynes says it's easy so I'm fully expecting it to go horribly wrong, lose a pint of blood and my patience.

If I get time I'm also hoping to swing by Jon's and pick up the Poly carb 1/4 lights and passanger window. If I manage to sort the rest of the Poly Carb windows from a supplier I'm hoping to get these in for springfest to further reduce my 1/4 mile time

Oh yeah, also need to get Mrs Horney's mini running again and give it a service.

^^^^ lol I love the way the missus's car is WAY down the bottom almost as a footnote. Somehow that always seems to happen with my job lists.

The CV joint shouldn't give you too much grief, the hardest part is getting the old one off the end of the shaft. I've only done one and that was involuntarily after a joint popped apart on Kermit while fitting different front shocks. I knew something wasn't right and when I prised the gaiter back the joint emptied its guts on my driveway. It was a great way to learn, first I had to find all the ball bearings, then clean all the grit off them and then work out how the hell they were all meant to be crammed back in!!!

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

I feel your pain on the CV joint mate. My mate Chris came round with his mini a few years back and and was like "Humm it's clicking a bit so I'll poke it." THe boot split and all the bearings fell out onto my parents gravel drive. Que frantic running around trying to find replacement parts and in the end fitted a completely new brake setup to get it back on the road. Fun times!

Nick, having done both outer and inner on mine I have the requisite spline bits in 1/2 in drive if you need them.  I am around, when not working on the wife's Peugeot, all weekend so give me a bell, or just briong the Golf round and we can swap the CV joint over at the same time.  It dosen't take very long!  :lipsrsealed:
