getting more from my 1.4
« on: 09 May 2009, 14:14 »
ok guys, well i have a mk3 1.4 ryder /driver (cant rememebr which) :undecided:    anyway providing it passes its mot at the beginning of next month im going to start doing it up. are there any mods which will get any extra horses out of the engine, its my 1st car and have no ncb so bigger engines are really out of the question as insurance is sky high!...

any help much appreciated

all depends on how much you want to spend.

obviously it would be cheaper to just put a bigger engine in but if you want to modify your engine  start with the usual make sure your plugs leads dizzy n coil are all good get more air into the engine either cone filter or whatever they do for the 1.4 ( i dont know these engines) a good flowing exhaust a cam maybe head work if you can afford it
that will make it  a fair bit nippier and also other than the obvious it will look pretty standard.

also use good quailty oil if your not using triple electrode spark plugs then mark where the electrode is relative to the SP body and fit them all facing the valve and use shell v power fuel (all little bits but still make a noticeable difference)

not sure if you can use a bigger bottom end or not  or maybe you could put a whole 1800 in or 1600 without declaring(should say that someone will say its against the law etc which is true it is but it does happen)
