Car pulling to left
« on: 08 May 2009, 09:01 »
Since i've had the car its always pulled to the left, so far i've done:

Tracking (twice to make sure)
Track rod ends
wheel balancing
New Tyre/checked preasure
Swapped wheels around..

Yet it stills pulls to the left, so much to that you have to hold it to the right and at 60mph you'd go over the curb in less than 2 seconds if i let go. I was told by my usually trusty local mechanic that "it's normal", well it isnt...

I was told to check the camber settings, but beyond that, what could it be?

wishbone bushes and balljoints would be on the list, also check the front wheels in genewral to make sure they're about the same position in both arches, i.e., one isnt further forward or sticking out than the other etc

Get it on a 4 wheel aligner and have the camber, castor and toe checked properly.

The MK2 does suffer from following the camber of the road because of the rear negative camber, but it wouldn't throw you into a kerb within 2s!

I got my wheels aligned and then it still pulled left, took it back, they got it up on machine again, and noticed the rear wheels where bent. The n/s had positive toe in, and o/s had negative, so car was crabbing. They told me to change stub axles, but i dont see that happening just now.

is it true that roads are cambered so water doesnt build up in the middle? my dads always told me this, and said it explains why cars often pull to the left slightly. is this just a fatherly ramble?

Are you actually asking what a road looks like? I never knew the blind could get driving licences?!
