detailing a car with cyphillis?
« on: 08 May 2009, 00:13 »

this is a car ive bought off ebay right, and its really f**king minging as its been stood under a tree for a long time

its got mold, mildew, tree sap etc, now im wondering what do i use to clean it? i dont think meguires wash n wax and the 2 bukket methods gonna help here

im thinking instead of a mitt im gonna need a hefty sponge, really not sure what to use on it though, obviously wash and wax wont be strong enough, maybe washing up liquid? one of me mates was up for using cillit bang and a scouring pad

then my master plan is to clay, then nuke it with some g3 and my rotary sander with a pad on it til its clean and red, then nuke it with some autoglym super resin polish? not gonna use wax as from experience all it does is make swirls look 100 times worse and the paint worse

ideas on a postcard, cheers all

sam

Not got a golf yet! did have a 1.6 driver plan to have another project car soon ;)

neat truckwash 68 from autosmart would go for a wash brush on this as its gangbanging with sap and algae among other contaminants and a sponge wont touch it,you may have to repeat this several times due to its condition,a steam cleaner would make life alot easier.
asuming its not metalic i would proceed with extreme caution when using g3 paste as it will go through that paint quicker than you could blink(happened to me when i was training many moons ago  )
dodojuice do a range of soft wax's that are very easy to apply and remove.

Strong snow foam mix left for ten minutes then pressure washed off. Repeat. That would get loads off.

If it was me though (I haven't got a pressure washer), I would go down the fairy liquid route.   :lipsrsealed:

As above, and if you dont have snow foam just keep washing over and over again untill its at the point where it can be sanded clayed with a mild/medium or medium grade clay bar. Keep us informed with pics of how you get on, perhaps this should be a project thread
