You know the score, but as long as you start with a good base car, set out a plan, you can gradually build it up over the years and turn it into a proper monster.

Goes without saying that as long as the engine is serviced and in reasonable shape you work on the brakes and suspension setup first and take it from there. I miss my race car loads, so I envy you getting back out there.

You may as well get a 16v to start off with, rather than an 8v.

Not really no. a 16v in my budget will be hanging and probably thrashed to death. Would rather pick up an 8v and then drop an ABF in there at a later date.
