Does anyone know if it is the red or the yellow wire on an aftermarket stereo that takes the switched live?

Also can anyone tell me what route to take from the back of the stereo to get a switched live from the fuse box?

There is no switched live in the back, that is all done via a CAMBUS adaptor. You will need to run your own cable from the fuse box to the back of the HU if you want a switched live or buy a CANBUS adaptor which is quite expensive. Im afraid im not sure which point in the fusebox is the switched, possibly try a Google search for a MK5 fusebox wiring diagram.

Alternately you can just wire it into a the constant live (as I have done) and assuming you have a removable fasica it will power down you take it out the car when your finished. I couldnt see the point of going through all the hassle of getting a switched live when I was going to take the fascia off anyway and it does the same job.

Yeah I know all about the CANBUS adapters what I was after was which colour on the stereo, red or yellow, to attach the switched live from the fusebox to! Thanks anyway Alan.
Found out now that it is the RED wire that needs to go to the switched live if anyone needs this for future reference!
Got it all in now and turning on and off with the ignition! Switched live wasnt too much bother and only took 10 mins to run a cable to the fuse box.

No worries!Its a Kenwood DPX-503U. Got some upgraded 3 way components to go with it but they are yet to be installed. Still need to have a play to get the colours matched exactly but looks pretty good so far and beefs up even the standard speakers. What audio set up are you running Alan?

That looks very nice, I was umming and arrring about getting a double din one but just didn't have the money at the time and was too impatent to save up so went for a cheaper decent single din one. That pic was taken just after I got it in, iv since put the cage in properly and its sits much more flush now :)

Im running x2 8'' Punch pancake subs, a Crossfire amp and an Alpine 9812RB HU.





Sub and amp really beef up the sound and its perfect for what I want, if anything its too much but Ive got a bass adjustment knob under my steering wheel so I turn it down to the right level and played about with the HU settings, spot on :)

You got any plans for a sub and amp? If you like your tunes its a must as Im sure everyone that has done it will agree.

If Hurdy sees this, post your sub and amp install up, its looks soooo good (jealous)
