Hi Guys,  as most people I normally just wash then polish a car, every 6 months or so ( didn't know any different ).

I got a new car a few weeks ago ( silver MK4 GTi ) and I'd like to lookafter the paint,  came across this part of the site and WOW  what an amount of info..

I've had a read of loads of threads and the ultimate sticky by JulesV6 : http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=66113.0

and this site ( explains difference between sealant and wax among other stuff ) :
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/guides.html

Now I'm going to " detail " my car over the weekend,  but as I'm a noob at this can someone check my plan of action to make sure I've got it right......  thank you..

1st - Good wash
2nd - Megs Quick Clay with Megs Mist + Wipe QD
3rd - Another good wash then dry
4th - 2x Coat of Megs Cleaner Wax ( stolen from brother,  aparently this is equal to AG SRP )
5th - Light coat of Chemical Guys Jetseal 109 ( on/off 1 panel at a time )
6th - Another light coat if CG Jetseal 109 ( left on over night )
7th - spray of QD just incase dist/dirt stuck to CG over night...   then buff off
8th - 1 x Coat of Collinite No. 476S ( on/off 1 panel at a time )
9th - Finally !!!   A quick Megs QD to finish off...

Does this sound ok ?  too much/too little ?

Any and all advise is more than welcome

Cheers

Perfect Guy,  thanks for the quick reply bud !

Is more wax later on ok ?  only asking as my car's silver and the polishbliss link goes on about wax dulling or changing  the effect of a sealant......    Again I don't know this sorta stuff,  so please no offense bud....  Plus I probably read it wrong

Cheers again

a few coats of wax will last you long enough... colli protects quite well and is quite a hard wax

in a few months when it isn't beading as well then it'll be time for a quick polish, sealant and a few more coats of wax

I thought cleaner wax (paint prep) is a different product to AG SRP (polish)?

What shampoo you using?
What are you gonna use for windows?
For black plastic trim? (if applicable)
For rims?
For tyres?

As for extra waxing, it's easy. Just wash the car with a shampoo, dry and then apply the wax. No clay, polish or sealant. Do it every weekend and you can build up the layers of wax. 2-4 layers is enough. Collinite 476s is very durable so once you built up 2 or 3 layers, you can get away without waxing again for another 6-8 months!

Hi StealthWolf;

From what I've read on another site - detailerworld,  Megs Cleaner Wax isn't part if the Megs 3 step stuff and is more of an all in one ( I think ) and it's on the same level as AG SRP...

To put is short - I've been reading far too much about detailing and my heads spinning with it all,  so I could be getting a bit mixed up somewhere..

As for shampoo,  I've only got TripleWax stuff in the shed - can't really afford to buy anything else at the moment due to other car bills.....  but I'm planing some AG, Megs or Dodo Juice in the near future..

Hahahahha    and as for windows/wheels,  I'm going to leave that for another day,  think I'll be knackered after doing the bodywork  ....

I do have some AG glass polish for when my right arm grows back...
Wheels - thinking about,  clay, meg wax,  and some jetseal 109 as jetseal is good for wheels to.

Luckily no black trim to worry about..

Cheers everyone

Looks like a good plan to me.

If it was me, and purely for cost/effort reasons, I would leave out the jetseal, as the Collinite wax is so hard/durable that its "almost" a sealant, so in real terms you will only get a bit of extra longevity from using both.

Just a thought.

Update :

Wow looking sweet - and if I manage to get my hands on a good camera I'll upload a pic..

JetSeal seems to work very well with my VAG Silver paint,  bit of bling and sort of wet look, very very nice  ...
I'm compairing it to Natty white which I only applied 2 weeks ago but I wasn't too happy with, very nice but a bit sterile looking ( then again I didn't clay the car lastime as I'm a newbie at this and didn't know what claying was)...
Due to the weather and lack of daylight I didn't manage to put any colli on  but I'll put another coat of JetSeal and then a coat of colli after the next wash..

Anyway,  I'm totally and uterly pooped now,  arms/sholders are near falling off,  time for a beer or 2 !!!

Cheers lads

Oh PS..  My brother is very much into cleaning and polishing his cars and he's noticed a big difference with me using Jetseal,  he's going to steel it next time he polishes his as he's been trying loads of different polish/waxes to get such results........
