VACUUM GUAGE QUESTION

Hi im installing a vacuum gauge to my mk2 16v this weekend and would like some advice on where the best place to take the vacuum feed would be,i know there is a vacuum hose that comes out of the side of the warm up valve but is this the best place? any help would be much appriciated.

Why are you installing a vacuum gauge?

You want it as close to the inlet manifold as possible - before any one-way valves.

Im installing the gauge because the gauges i have are now obselete and i really really like them,i tried to get a oil pressure gauge to match my oil and water temp ones that i had but wasnt able to get hold of one and the only one that they still had end of line stock of was the vacuum gauge,ive read up on the internet how to read the gauge and downloaded a chart of how to read it and it acctually seems like it may be quite usefull,they reckon if you know how to read it it can acctually warn of major engine problems before they become major engine problems.

H'mmmm, I think you would be a lot better off with an oil pressure gauge, or a mixture gauge, using a lambda in the downpipe than a vacuum gauge. 

I'd be interested to know what help it could be and when though....

Cool its all in and working and now my dash looks complete  :smug:
I did want to get a oil pressure gauge instead but as i said the one i wanted was no longer available and i wanted matching gauges
obviously and the only one i could get was the vacuum.
Theres a website that shows different readings on idle,accleration and over run with what the reading could mean
for instance a car at idle with steady needle and a reading of 18-22 in/hg (inches of hydrogen) is a healthy engine where as a car at idle
with a wandering needle over a certain degree may have a vacuum leak,ive just used this one as an example but the gauge can tell signs of wear,poor tuning/mixture,worn rings.timing issues (although this one is obvious anyway)etc etc, it wasnt my intention to have a vac gauge but its in now and working and adds abit of eye candy when driving so hey ho.
