Should I buy this vr6?
« on: 02 August 2004, 10:17 »
Hi guys, I am interested in a vr6, and have seen one in my local autotrader which I am going to view on Thursday. The guy who is selling it is asking around 2 grand for a 93 k reg, with 140k and fsh. However, when I called him up he said that it needed a new head gasket and he was getting it done for ?600 before selling,  which is good, but do you need to renew timing chain etc when fitting a new gasket? also he said that the car has had a new gearbox fitted about a year ago. Are these common problems or is this just an abused example?

Try reading the VR6 thread in this section.

But in general if all the work has been done professionally with bills etc. should be no problem.
One word of caution - head gaskets are rarely just a replacement gasket, usually a head skim as well. If he is gonna do it ask how much the head was skimmed.
