my car needs new pads an discs, popped in euro parts an spoke 2 the geezer, i wanted 2 go drilled an grooved, geezer behind counter hes 3 valvers, an he said just go standard discs an pads but fit braided hoses an better spec fluid, he reckons it makes a big difference, anyone else reccomend this :huh: :huh:

Drilled disks are prone to cracking around the weak points of the drilled hole(s)
Grooved disks lead to increased pad wear.

Both of them help breaking by allowing dust/water/gases disperse when the brakes are applied.

Its up to you really, I've never noticed any difference apart from drilled and grooved look cool ;) The price is about the same, so I just go for grooved and vented.

If your pedal feels spongy, then a bigger master cylinder and braided metal hoses will sort it. http://www.tsr-performance.com/pages/goodridge.asp- you'd need the 6 line kit on a rear calliper Golf. My pedal would have to be seriously spongey before I considered fitting them. The idea is to prevent the rubber flexi's from swelling under pressure.

given the choice between grooved or drilled id go with grooved for the reason ben said, some can can crack around the holes.  But everyone has their own opinions on the best disc/pad combo, its personal preference. On mine I have brembo grooved discs and EBC pads, which work good enough for me! but then I dont do track days so cant comment on hard use.  Certainly saved me from several crashes due to the absolute muppets driving about on public roads these days :rolleyes:

I put standard disks with mintex extreme pads (now unavailable) and my car stops unbelievably well. I trackday my car and have never had any braking issues at all with standard disks and can out brake loads of cars out there.

Get good pads and some dot 5.1 fluid and you'll be stopping quickly enough with out any fade.
