Help
« on: 26 April 2009, 23:08 »
Picked the car up on Friday and can't stop driving him gave him a 2 hour clean on Saturday wash, clay bar and waxed...so all nice and shiny but I have a slight problem, whilst driving around I noticed a knocking sound coming from beneath the car on drivers side, so I checked underneath and found that there is a hard plastic cover there which goes  from drivers side to passenger side and it's hanging off at my side. What is this for and should the garage repair it....Looks like it's going to need a new one what ever it is. Hope i'm explaining myself right :embarassed:

it sounds to me like your engine undertray / sump guard

5 minute job to re-attach - problem will arise if the clips holding it have broken / snapped

i think its about £90 for a new one too

and its worth keeping it on! its surprising the protection it gives your sump

I have never had a problem with the sump scraping, i did think about putting a new cover on as it does reduce the engine noise a little but just never got around to it

Been to garage today  from what I gather the undertray comes in 3 parts ....it's the part near the drivers wheel that has snapped so the guy is ordering me the whole lot as the middle part was missing too. Also booked in for cambelt doing on Wednesday. Then the modding will begin. Was thinking of keeping the alloys I have and just having them re sprayed gunmetal, I have a pair of angel lights on order, having the rear valance and front  colour coded and have a Seat Leon splitter to put on. Also looking for a diffrent front grill and air vents.

Any idea how much the undertray is costing?
The bit under the gearbox on mine has gone......lol and its cracked/split on the drivers side, help together with a cable tie.
Some say you'll need to do the water pump at the same time as the cam belt, the water pump thats fitted now is plastic, which should be replaced with a metal one.
Wheres the pics of ya motor? Post some up if you havent already. :afro:

I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

Thanks Steve^^^^. Dubbz...Not sure how much the whole undertray is going to cost as It's been done free by the garage I bought the car from.
