Mk2 Tilt and slide roof help
« on: 26 April 2009, 20:41 »
Hi,

Does anyone have a tilt and slide fitted in their car, or knows about them?

I am putting one back into my car and I am putting the trim panel on the inside but the inner flap wont lift up when the roof tilts.
I checked ETKA and there are supposed to be two springs, so I ordered these. They are about 5"-6" long.

Now, I cant for the life of me figure out how these springs fit to the inside of the roof.

On the edge of the flap there is a small hole which is where I guess one end of each spring fits, but I cant see where the other is supposed to go.

Can anyone have a look for me please and take a photo? ETKA isnt clear where the springs are supposed to go unfortunately.

Cheers!

there should be a round ring on a bar on the roof upper panel somewhere, the spring hooks onto that.

Yeah, I thought that as it looks like an obvious place but the springs I have are way too long.

Do you know what the spring should look like? The ones I have have a coiled section about 1.5" long with straight tails either end about 2" long. Small hook one end and larger hook other end.

Also, does your roof have two springs here? I cant see why they would fit two when one would have done the job.

Cheers!

The spring that lifts it up is about 1.5-2 inches long, and one leg fits under the bracket, and the other just pushes against the deflector.

Well, it's how I did mine anyways. Was bit of an awkward little bugger to fit back on your own because the other side straightens out. So you have to stand through the sunroof, have a couple of screws in your mouth  ready to put them in quickly, and place it down centraly.

Life is like a skid mark on a toilet bowl.  Sooner or later someone\\\'s going to pi$$ you off.

thats for the front wind deflector, we're talking about the wee trim flap on the inside that lifts up when the roof is tilted up :)
