oil breather

does anyone no of anyway to stop oil getting into my air filter?? i have mk 2 1600 carb on g plate, im having to replace the air filter quiet often, anyone else had this problem??
plz help!!!!!!

If you're getting a lot of oil, its a sign that you're losing compression. It would be worth carrying ot a compression check.

just had it tuned up and the bloke says all is well with the engine now thats he has ajusted the timing, was 10 o out due to the 16oo having two different engine codes or something, not to sure.
Is there anything u can think of that may stop it as i wanna put a k and n on there but dont want oilo everywhere?

My brother had this problem on his MK1 Golf Driver. Replacing the crankcase breather which has a tube coming up to the air filter cured it. I seem to remember the breather is a very tight push (hit with a rubber mallet) fit into the block.

silly question really but where is the crankcase breather pipe?
new to cars so aint got a clue, any help is good help cheers

done tons o work on the old 8v engines and it is the oil breather thats your prob. it will cost you under a tenner to buy but it will cost you no end of skin of your knuckles!
it is at the rear of the engin (near the bulk head) should just prise out with a sharp screwdriver, try using a large prybar and lightly tapping the new one in (2 persons)

looked for the breather pipe today no joy, took it to a garage still no joy, seems to think there is no exturnal breather pipe, had engine up on ramps etc and no one can find it!!!!!!
could it be pressure build up at bottom of engine?

If this has the square air filter, there is a pipe from the rocker cover to the air filter housing, that should be the engine breather. Pull the pipe off and run the engine, if there is a lot of oil and fumes the engine could be on the way out. There was a mod to stop oil entering the air filters on early MK1 gti golfs,it was a plastic splash shield that goes on top of the cam shaft, under the rocker cover. Later cars should have it, may be missing. Hope this helps, Steve.

Cheers Steve and all who have replied to me, it has the square air filter, and the splash shield is also there, i thought that pipe on the rocker was the only one but was told there was one behind the engine??
Still havent found it if there is but never mind. The problem seems to get worse the more oil thats in there. Build up of internal pressure maybe??
I dunno but plz help if u no anything
