I got 340 today from £40. That was with aircon on half the time and doing 80+ a lot of the time. Not bad going me thinks.

That is good to be honest, more than a Gti would do.

I was well surprised, as usually my MPG is rubbish but this did it with ease :)

Put it like this £100 in my Bmw gets me around 480 miles of mixed driving.

so you agree bmw's are rubbish???

On petrol it's just silly, I would not like a car that got me just under 500 miles for £100, that's £1 for 4.80 miles!!!

...unless its something tasty like a lambo

Nope, I never expected my 5 series to be very good on petrol, it is a big heavy car with a 6 cylinder engine plus its an auto.

To be honest this month it has only had a few long runs, I never normally do that amount of miles, just a few friends have lent it for various reasons.

I got 70 miles the other day from £10. Hence the weight shredding.

Now my 1.6 8V Mk3 on a full tank of carefull driving on the M4, 80miles round trip works out to only get 350miles. I do 65 (70 for overtakes) and the damn thing just drinks. Is this normal for a 1.6. Reading posts im assuming you lot have mostly got GTI's. Seeing as i am getting  a 2.0 16V Mk3 will i moan more

To be honest you should find a 16v at least the same or better, yours will suffer as it is a small engine in a heavy car.

I had a feeling it would or could be a bit better seeing as the engine wouldnt be pulling the car to much with the power. Like you say the car is heavy or as my mates have nicknames it, Panzerwagen
