« on: 22 April 2009, 21:28 »
Hi
My name is Dave i am 27 and have just joined, not had a VW before and i am awiting delivery of what i think is a Mk2 GTi b reg black.
It has been sitting in a garden for the past 6 years idol.
have had alook and seems pretty clean. (about a million spiders in it though)
all doors are shot, cannot get under it yet to see whats gonna need doing, engine hasnt run for 6 years so know thats gonna be a challenge, anyone think it might start after a service and some tlc??

borrowed a trailer 2 days ago and got the car back to my house in portsmouth ready to begin stripping to see whats left. doesnt look good.

I have come here looking for inspiration and to decide whether is worth rescuing it.

The engines are reasonably solid. First things first, check the body for rot - not point spending any money/time on a rotten car (unless your a proficient welder).

Change the oil and filter, clean up the sparks and pop some fresh fuel in the tank. Turn the engine over by hand a few turns and see how it goes then disconnect the LT lead and spin the starter for 20s to get the oil flowing. Reconnect your sparkies and see if it fires ;)

Best of luck my man ;)

cheers everyone for welcomes,
i have the car in the garage now, quite a mess, started taking front end apart and cancer has took hold, taking bumper off front subframe came down and is really rusted no use to anyone, rusted through under battery real bad so gonna strip it down and seek some advice on the rust see if can be fixed.
