Exhaust Tips & Autosol help!
« on: 22 April 2009, 10:28 »
I want to keep my exhaust tips shiny, since they are starting to go black a little.
I purchased some Autosol - didnt expect the cream to be as thick TBH.

I tried to put some on the exhaust tips, but havent seen much of a difference, and the black bits are still there.

Any help/tips on how I can get rid of the black and get my shine back??

With a high speed rotary ;)

I find it hard working with Autosol neat, with power tools, as it just makes the metal dirtier than when you started. So instead I diluted it down 9 parts water / 1 part Autosol. Then I just mist it on with a sprayer and use a rotary on it.

The thing is though, its best cleaning all the crap off thoroughly first otherwise the Autosol will just mix it into its finish.

Has anyone ever tried this.....

Apparently removes the stuck on carbon, and can also be used on alloys to get brake dust off!

if the carbon really is that bad then use very fine grade wet & dry sandpaper followed by autosol... which i would then follow with belgom alu or a hard wax

I use a bit of fine grade wire wool and autosol and I've always found it to be very good, it is a bit like tooth paste though

Bloody hell!!!
I have the autosol - need to get some of that 00 wire wool me thinks!!!

Although my exhausts are still pretty clean of carbon at the moment, just want to polish them up a little...

Is it sad that I use a tissue to wipe off any carbon from the exhausts after every drive?? lol
