Alloys for a Mk2 GTI
« on: 30 July 2004, 00:50 »
Hi Guys

Been looking for some alloys for my Mk2 Golf GTi 8v.. and ive found some just want your advice.

17" FOX 6 CRYSTAL & 205/40/17 Nankang NS1 Sport tyres.

the above is what i have been looking at. My car has been lowered 40mm and i want to know a few details. will the wheels/tyres rub? and will the wheels/tyres sit in the arches or below the arches..

Look forward to hearing from you guys...

Dave

Id say avoid brands like Fox and Wolf Race, They always look a lill cheap and tacky, If you want performance id say OZs, they might not look like much but there very light, If you want somthing that looks the part on VWs look for alloys that are in three parts (you know, the ones with the bolts under the lip etc) they look expencive, However usally thats because they are lol.

you need the arches cut & rolled if you want to run 17's

best avoided in my book.

you can run 16's happily enough though, ive 16x7 on my car at the mo with 205/45 tyres and dont get any rubbing, even with a full load in the rear

Hello,
I have Golf Driver H reg. and I'm also shopping for alloys. My car is not lowered. What is the widest tyre i can go for before they start rubbing the against the arch?

Also, the car has no power steering, can I fit 17" alloys without affecting the steering (it's a bugger to park sometimes)

Cheers
