WARNING FOR KENT MOTORIST!
« on: 20 April 2009, 23:28 »
Some may already know this, but the TWO SHELL SERVICE STATION on BLUEBELL HILL have been in the local papers warning of a CREDIT/DEBIT CARD SCAM!

I found out today i have been caught as well! when my bank phoned to ask if i was in THAILAND   turns out my card has been cloned after using the above service station and has been used in 5 different countries   all unsuccessful :)  thanks to my bank being on the ball.

Be carefull out there.

My mate had this too, with an ATM machine, i always check the speakers in them for cameras and cover my pin.

Some of the cloning machines the person has to be within wireless distance as it dont have a hard drive!

And within a few minutes they are using your card abroad.

Mates bank showed him using a ATM in essex, then an hour later in spain. lol

Similar scam in Leicester a couple of years back, petrol station was in a very small village, and because all the locals used it, they all got ripped off at the same time!

petrol stations are the worst for cloning cards. loads of my friends were ripped off by the same one. my bank was on the ball so it didn't cost me anything. as a few of us were with the same bank we all went into the local branch to see what was being done. the only advise we got was "use cash when paying for petrol as it seems petrol stations nationally are a problem". very helpful. dunno bout naming the petrol station in case i get my ass burned but it aint too far from the plough pub in welling.

use the old age protection by not handing them the card...all machines are now chip n pin, so don't let em take the card over the other side of the counter, and protect that pin...never swipe it first...

And yeah Shell are the worst of all of these...one near me in Manchester got done for it, and yet the manager stayed!!

That's the bit that got me! they never had my card! i put it in the device punched in my code and took my card out.

Nothing strange there but they must have something rigged up to it under the counter

The data stream is intercepted in a back room, and recorded.  Your information is then 'passed' into the network on a second machine behind the scenes.

It's a simple data capture.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.
