No worries mate. You won't regret holding out for 12 months, I always try to resist the urge.....

As for the front end of the new GTI, I know what you mean. At the moment I prefer the mkV but I always find that golfs grow on you. I can remember being unimpressed when the mkV GTI came out when I was in college in 2004 and not being too fussed. A year later I was obsessed!!

I think you're nuts.

Take that money and invest in booze, pot noodles and febreeze like a proper student.

£300 a month on insurance?

Edited... read the whole thread :)

yeah i know what you mean, they do look better in real life, when i went to the showroom they had some normal golfs there and they looked very smart, but they said they wont have a brochure let alone a display car for the gti for atleast another 6 weeks

Yes, and I do too. God I was too busy at uni getting pissed, getting laid and having a laugh with my mates (well 2 out of those 3 anyway ;) ) to even want to think about spending 10k+ on a car, let alone 4k a year on Insurance LOL

But I didnt want to shoot the poor lad down (sorry to be patronising!)

Word of advice - be patient.... lots of time to buy a car that will impress :)

£4k! sod that. I got a saxo vtr at 18, then bought a civic type r at 20 and now have a R32 at 22. Never paid more than £1500 (CTR) for insurance. Saxo was £1000 a year and was a great fun car, looking back was not worth that much though, even though it was quick for my age.

Going off that i should be looking at RS4/M3 at 24

Just wait, maybe look at mk4 gti's for now, they wont drop much more in value so will be good untill you 20?

Well i have 8k cash and the possibility of some finance to boost it up, i wont have no more than around 13

my insurence will be 4k just for a year, but i paid 3k a year for my old fiesta zetec s, so i dont mind, plus i get a years no claims in september.

but golf gti's are just so expensive and i doubt i can get a decent one for my money

Are you out of your mind - 4k for insurance!!  You are either drug dealing on the side or robbing your parents if you don't have a full time job   Whats the rush to get a MK5 GTI - by the time you finish studying you will be able to get a bargain and not get raped on the insurance.  Its a nice car but not worth 4k insurance.  Get yourself a nice Mk2 or Mk4 instead - just as cool but sadly not as quick, which might be a good thing for you, your excess would probably be 10K

Exactly - the MK5 GTi is a nice car, but no way worth that sort of financial stupidty. In 2 years time there will be a another one, and then another one.

I sold my Z3 for 5k - you could have had that instead of buying a piece of paper from Direct Line :D

Everyway you look at it, it makes no sense whatsoever :)
