Evenin 'all

I've been lurking for a while gleaning information, but after much c*cking around going around the country to see 16 valvers that have ended up being molested, or dogs, I thought my chances of finding my dream unmolested car was going to come to nothing - then I found this:

'H' 1990
Only 73k miles (!)
5 owners
FVSH with all MOT's tax discs etc etc
Original Blaupunkt stereo
Original dealers sticker in the rear window and original dealer no' plates!

In short, it's flawless! The only non-original thing on it is some deadlocks on the doors, but does that really matter?!?

Now the crunch. I have commited to pay, ahem.... £4,600! (he was asking £5k) Have I just done something very stupid and bought a car with my heart simply because there is nothing else out there, or will it keep some of it's money?!?

Here she is:

P.s. Can anybody identify what grey is it?

I couldn't find anything specific in the paperwork or original bill of sale. It all just says "Grey".

id say it must be almost if not perfect, but around 4k is not unusall, only thing is i hope you love it like the previous owner dont get putting cheap parts on it or "bodging" it or anything like that or that 4k value could soon be 1K

is it going to be a daily? or a sunday toy ( the later will obviously be good for its mileage and condition )

Hi Dolly

You'll be pleased to hear it will be staying 100% standard. The appeal of the 16v to me is how it looks in it's original form. There will be no new alloys (the BBS's are perfect!), lowered suspension or exhausts or any mod tweaking. Like you say, as soon as you do things like that they fall in price, so I will also be using original parts if they need replacing at any point. I'm 31 and I remember in 1991 my parents neighbour came home in a brand new Oak Green 16 valver and I fell in love with it. I've wanted one ever since, so now I am downgrading (in price!) so I can buy my first home, I thought now would be a god time to fulfill that teenage crush.

It will be a weekend car with the odd commute during the week. :)

Lovely car and colour, £4600 is only expensive if you are not happy with it

I suppose if you're happy with the price then that's all you need. Personally i'd never spend 4.6k on a mk2

Those deadlocks would really annoy me. No denying it's certainly tidy though

btw, the later grey cars are generally pearl grey. Open the boot and look inside at the rear panel. There should be a factory sticker with a load of codes on it, they tell you the engine, the trim, the options, paint code etc etc. Also a good indication that it's the original rear panel

Thanks for that - all being well I will be picking it up next weekend (not had time to get the cash today, and I'm busy with work this week), so I'll have a look then. :)

I'll be honest it looks a little lighter than Atlas cars I have seen previously, but that just might be the good paint's condition.

Once you have the codes you need to go to a site where you input what you have and it tells you what is what. I think the link is over on clubgti somewhere

I've been trying to register on ClubGti for over a week now, but I can find no way of getting my account approved. I registered, received the email which allowed me to activate the account, but nobody seems to approve it. I've emailed them 4 or 5 times (through the online form, directly, via the board etc), but nobody answers. So i've given up.
