7 x 15 wheels, too big for no power steering?
« on: 28 July 2004, 14:03 »
two questions,

1) Does anyone have a view on whether 7 x 15 inch wheels (std offset) will fit under the arches when the car is lowered.  I don't want them to rub on corners etc.

2) Are 7 inch wide wheels going to be too heavy to handle on a car without power steering?  anyone got experience of this?

cheers,

Carl.

Sounds reassuring guys, thanks,  I'm looking at a set of Borbet's (I think that's the brand) on ebay at the moment for the track day car I'm building. If I can get them at a decent price and they fit I'll be chuffed to bits !

Carl.

if your looking to build a track car then id be looking for light alloy wheels such as Oz Super T's etc

you only need 15x6.5

a set of 15" steels with 195/45 profile tyres would be perfect for trackdays

I have 7.5 x 15s.   How heavy your steering is will depend on the size of your steering wheel. Thats probably why the steering wheel on a PAS GTI is smaller than the Non-PAS GTI.

I had 7x17's with a 350mm momo and my mum managed it without PAS. now that I've got PAS it's just so much easier parking it.

you could probably pick up a cheap gti with power steering for about 250 and take the bits off that. The power steering pump, the rack the pipes etc etc??

would probably be more expensive to buy the bits new and seperate.
