Possible purchase of GTI T MK4

Hey,

Sorry for this to be my first post but everyone has to start somewhere.

I'm ideally going to be looking at a golf GTI T within the next couple of days.  It seems a nice car it's got the recaro seats and the alloys that I'm looking for,  the only possible problem is the 100,000 miles on the clock.  Are these cars good for 6 figure milages if they've been looked after?  It says that it's got full service history and it seems in reasonably nick from the photos.  The advert states 200bhp so I'm assuming it's already seen a remap.

The only thing I think I need to look for is a timing belt change every 60,000 miles.  Is there anything else I should specifically be looking for?

Yeah engines are very good - easy well over 100k just make sure it has service history

Also check the water pump has been changed with the cam belt - thay fail for a pass time.

can't really add much to what Dave and Rich has said but i would say buy a diesel instead

Thanks for the pointers boys.  I thought there would be a buying FAQ but I was too stupid to notice it :S

I was a bit worried about my insurance with the remap but it's only coming in at about another £50-£60.

can't really add much to what Dave and Rich has said but i would say buy a diesel instead

Well looks like I've bought the car and I'm going to pay and pick it up tomorrow.  However insurance is now a sticking point with me.  I checked the price before hand with money supermarket and I checked the box for engine modification - chip ecu and It added about £60 to my insurance.  Seemed fair to me.  However only now do I go though to the purchase section and lo and behold there is another check box after that asking me how much of an estimated bhp increase there is.  I check the correct box and my insurace quotation now jumps £250 from the not modified price or £150 for the 10 month accelerator thingy.  Not happy at all.  Bleeding money supermarket and their crappy site.  I've put a request in with adrian flux but they're already closed so it'll need to wait until the morning.

and make sure you got RECOVERY included on ya breakdown insurance
